The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends that you have your chimney, fireplace and vents inspected at least once a year. Here is what you receive when you choose a Doctor Flue chimney inspection.
Wood Burning Chimney Inspection
We look for structural issues, safety hazards and combustible deposits. To do that, we review the exterior of your chimney and run an internal video scan (if readily accessible).
When we finish, we go over our findings with you and answer your questions. You receive an instant evaluation summary by email for your records.
Gas Burning Chimney Inspection
We perform a 17-point safety check of the interior and exterior of your flue system to find possible hazards, with careful attention to the valves for gas leaks.
When we finish, we go over our findings with you and answer your questions. You receive an instant evaluation summary by email for your records.

3. Video Inspection Equipment

We use video equipment to check the condition of your chimney’s lining and interior. You are welcome to watch the footage, usually from your living room, so you can see and understand any issues.
In select cases we also use a drone. It lets us inspect chimneys safely and efficiently when ladder access is difficult.
Common Questions About Our Chimney Inspection Service
How Often Do I Need a Chimney Inspection?
The NFPA recommends an annual inspection of chimneys, fireplaces and vents, with cleaning, maintenance and repairs as needed. Our CSIA-certified sweeps assess your system and explain the work it needs.
Caring for your fireplace and chimney is part of owning a home. As Doc says, “Clean flues don’t burn!” Creosote is flammable, and chimney fires can cause property loss, injury and death. Have a certified sweep inspect your flue every year and sweep it to remove creosote (we recommend sweeping once creosote builds up to 1/8 inch).
What Type of Chimney Inspection Do I Need?
The CSIA classifies chimney inspections as Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3. The level you need depends on your chimney and your situation. If you have not changed your system or the way you use it, a Level 1 inspection is enough.
If you are unsure, call us at (800) 438-3583 and we will help you decide which level fits your situation.
